Outdoor lifestyle photography sessions are an absolute favourite of mine, and I love learning new ways of looking at shooting; using different locations, and dealing with different light conditions. So this week I attended the perfect workshop to get my creative juices flowing, hosted by the fabulous Nina Mace Photography (you can see her photography at www.ninamacephotography.com). I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time, loving the natural feel of her photography, combined with a bold, but clean editing style.

We used the walled gardens in Basingstoke for our location which gave lots of variety of background for out shoots. It was a beautiful hot and sunny day – giving us the opportunity to deal with the challenging lighting conditions of bright overhead sun. The we were able to shoot in beautiful gentle light as we moved towards the evening’s golden hour.

Nina was inspiring as a mentor, giving me new view points on using natural light and shade in varying conditions. We looked at the different qualities of light at different times of day and I learned new techniques that I am excited to put into practice in my next family sessions.

As you can see, we had some fabulous models to practice on, full of enthusiasm and charm, and just a joy to photograph. I am spoilt for choice for photos to edit from the workshop, and have only have a chance to look at a few so far.

All in all, it was a fabulous day and lovely to meet with other children’s photographers. I’m already looking at my next potential workshop options.
